چکیده

Abstract As a result of ongoing climate change, extreme climatic events (ECEs) are expected to become more frequent and severe. The high biodiversity riverine ecosystems is susceptible ECEs, especially water temperature (extreme heat cold) discharge-related (flood drought) events. Long time series needed unravel the effects ECEs on ecological communities. Here, we used 20 years (1986–2005) unusually high-resolution data from pristine first-order stream in Germany. Daily recordings species-level identified aquatic insect (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera: EPT) emergence, discharge were examine four types heat, cold, flood, drought events) abundance, common taxonomic diversity metrics, selected traits after five different lags (2 weeks, 1, 3, 6, 12 months). Extreme increased 1.8 ± 1.9 SE per year before 2000 5.3 2000. Water temperature-related restructured EPT community species richness, (community index: CTI, dispersal capacity metric: DCM). strongest found when it was exposed multiple 1 3 months an ECE. changing frequencies durations increasing frequency negative cumulative paint worrisome picture for future communities headwater streams. High-resolution, long-term across sites further disentangle ECE stressors.

Diet and trophic groups of an aquatic insect community in a tropical stream.

The diet and trophic groups of an assemblage of aquatic insects were studied in a tropical stream. Genera of the orders Ephemeroptera, Odonata, Plecoptera, Lepidoptera, and Hemiptera showed feeding specialization. Others, such as Trichoptera, Coleoptera, and Diptera, showed great diet variation with genera of different trophic groups. Seasonal variation of insect diet, evident only for some gen...

Extreme climatic events: examples from the alpine region

This paper provides a general overview of climatic extremes, how they may be defined and what they represent both in statistical and in physical terms, as well as the impacts they are capable of generating. A particular case study, namely the heat wave that affected many parts of Europe from June-August 2003, will be discussed in some detail. The final part of the paper will investigate, on the...

Extreme heat events--a community calamity.

a growing global concern that teeming millions might be at greater risk of death, disease and disability due to extreme heat events in the tropics and other regions. It has been estimated that about 48 million people were affected in Asia during the year 2008, due to climatological, geophysical, hydrological and meteorological events. Despite projection of changing climate and occurrence of inc...
